Pilot Visa-Free Policy

As of November 22, 2024, China offers a pilot short-stay visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders of 28 countries. List of 28 Qualified Countries can be found on the About Chinese Visa page in the website of China Consular Affairs.

144-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy

China's 144-hour visa-free transit policy is carried out in several cities in China to facilitate international travelers. It allows passengers from 54 countries or regions to transit for no more than 144 hours (6 days) without holding a visa. Shanghai is one of the cities.

Necessary materials to apply for Chinese Visa

- A passport which is valid for at least six months following the date of submission, with an entire blank page available for the visa;
- One Visa Application Form of the Peoples Republic of China, which is filled clearly with true, authentic and complete information and signed by the applicant;
- One recent, 2 inch full-faced and bareheaded passport photo (the daily life photo, photo copy or digital photo printed on the ordinary paper shall not be accepted);
- Other related application materials according to different purposes for your trip to China;
- Other materials related to the visa application, deemed as necessary by the visa officer.

Invitation Letter

  • 1. It is ICMIE policy to only issue Invitation Letter to Speakers, Authors, Committee Members, and Attendees paid in FULL. Please contact conference secretary by email (icmie@academic.net)
  • 2. Your name must be listed exactly as it appears on your passport. Any differences between the name on your passport and the name on your invitation letter or other documentation could lead to a delay and/or denial of your visa.
  • 3. ICMIE can only issue the Invitation Letter for the conference. No other kind of documentation will be provided for use of visa applications. ICMIE will NOT issue any Letter of Sponsorship or Letter of Guarantee if you are required to do so by the immigration department. It is the participants’ sole responsibility to obtain such documents.
  • 4. ICMIE cannot change the decision of the any country’s embassy/consulate or any other government departments, nor will ICMIE appeal to the embassy/consulate on behalf of the applicant.
  • 5. The registration fee cannot be refunded when the VISA application of individual being denied.
